inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Creative Economy has reaffirmed its support for the gaming and esports industries. Vice Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, stated that gaming is a strategic subsector within the creative economy.
She believes that Indonesia is not only a gaming market but also a source of creative talent. Therefore, the Ministry of Creative Economy is striving to encourage global gaming platform providers to collaborate with Indonesian creative actors.
"Indonesian gamers are among the largest, second only to China in the world. So, if we are not only capable of playing games but also developing digital assets to create content, I am sure Indonesia will be on the map as our talents are adept in this industry," explained Irene on Monday (3/30/2026).
She stated that behind every major game lies a long creative value chain involving programmers, game artists, music composers, story writers, animators, and community managers.
"The Ministry of Creative Economy is committed to building an ecosystem that not only produces professional players, but also behind-the-scenes talent—coaches, analysts, broadcasters, event organizers, and the entire creative profession chain in this industry," he emphasized.
"Our goal is clear: Indonesia must move beyond being a mere game consumer to becoming a game creator," the Deputy Minister added.
