Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia has signed a UN declaration to strengthen the protection of humanitarian personnel before, during, and after conflict, while reinforcing international humanitarian and human rights law.
“Today we have a declaration ready to be signed. But our responsibility does not end here. We must commit to its full and effective implementation,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono at the UN Headquarters in New York on Sunday (21/9/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The declaration, initiated by Indonesia, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Japan, Jordan, Sierra Leone, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, was endorsed by 104 nations. It comes amid rising attacks, detentions, and disinformation targeting aid workers worldwide.
Minister Sugiono highlighted the tragic toll in Gaza, where more than one in every 50 UNRWA staff have been killed, the highest number in UN history. He urged collective accountability, stressing that each fallen worker represents an extraordinary life dedicated to humanity.
The agreement also establishes a “Friends of Humanitarian Personnel Protection Group” in Geneva for coordination and advocacy.
