Inp.polri.go.id - Tanjungpinang. The government has chosen Riau Islands as a pilot project for mining governance reform, marked by the launch of a stockpile recovery program for 4.25 million metric tons of abandoned bauxite ore on Dompak Island.

“I hope the PPDN Coordination Task Force, under the Ministry of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, will soon finalize an inventory of abandoned mineral and coal stockpiles across the country, leading to a Presidential Regulation to govern their utilization and boost foreign exchange reserves,” said Deputy Coordinating Minister Lodewijk F. Paulus on Monday (28/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

PPDN Task Force’s main job is to increase domestic state revenue.

Acting Deputy Attorney General Asep Nana Mulyana said the initiative reflected the state’s role in safeguarding national assets.

The reclaimed bauxite mine, which is left unattended since 2014, has the potential to generate Rp 1.4 trillion in foreign exchange.
