Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesia saw 1.34 million foreign tourist visits in August 2024, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), marking a 2.23 percent increase compared to July 2024 and an 18.30 percent rise from August last year.

“The number of foreign tourist visits has been rising since April 2024 after a dip in March,” said Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, on Tuesday (1/10/2024).

From January to August 2024, total foreign tourist visits reached 9.09 million, a 20.38 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

“This cumulative figure is the highest since 2020. However, it’s still lower than pre-pandemic levels,” she added, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Malaysia accounted for the largest share of visitors (14.09 percent), followed by Australia (11.47 percent) and China (9.41 percent).

African tourists saw the highest increase at 34.73 percent, followed by tourists from Asia (excluding ASEAN) at 26.01 percent, and Oceania at 21.35 percent. In contrast, visitors from the Middle East showed the smallest growth at 0.46 percent.

Meanwhile, Middle Eastern tourist visits dropped 39.77 percent compared to July.
