Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut have called on Indonesian citizens in Lebanon to evacuate following an online meeting to discuss the security situation.

Judha Nugraha, the Ministry's Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens, said on Tuesday (1/10/2024) that some citizens are choosing to stay, believing their areas are still safe.

“We continue to monitor the situation and urge everyone to prioritize their safety,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The number of registered Indonesians in Lebanon has increased to 159 from 155. In addition, around 1,200 Indonesian military personnel are stationed in Lebanon under the UN Peacekeeping Forces (UNIFIL). The Foreign Ministry has said that it would coordinate with the UNIFIL commander if an evacuation becomes necessary.

The Ministry has also urged Indonesians to avoid travel to Lebanon and Israel. The Indonesian Embassy in Beirut has been on high alert since August this year and has helped 25 Indonesians return back home..

Since 23 September 2024, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have killed over 960 people and injured 2,770, according to Lebanese authorities.
