inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Eddy Soeparno said that Indonesia should learn from Russia in terms of developing Nuclear Power Plants (PLTN).
This was said by Eddy when he met with the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Andrey Yatskin on the sidelines of the agenda of the XI Nevsky International Ecological Congress in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Eddy said that currently Russia has a modular PLTN that has been tested and its development is carried out by the well-known company Rosatom.
"The development of nuclear energy by Russia is a breakthrough in the development of renewable energy at the global level and can be an example for the development of similar technology in Indonesia," said Eddy, quoted by Antaranews on Saturday (5/24/2025).
Therefore, Eddy hopes that cooperation will be formed between Indonesia and Russia in developing PLTN with methods such as those carried out by the Rosatom company.
"Through cooperation with Russia in the development of nuclear energy technology, there will be an exchange of technology and innovation in the development of renewable energy with Indonesia," said Eddy.
Not only discussing the development of nuclear power plants, Eddy and Yatskin also discussed the opportunity to boost trade cooperation between Indonesia and Russia.
Eddy also welcomed the plan submitted by the Russian government. He hopes that the cooperation can benefit the economies of both countries and strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia.
"We will also forward this Russian initiative to various related parties as full support for President Prabowo's diplomatic strategy to join BRICS and Indonesian exports to emerging economy countries," explained Eddy.
