Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesia’s U-23 national team suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat to Vietnam in the final of the 2025 ASEAN U-23 Championship at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta on Tuesday (29/7/2025). 

The only goal came in the 37th minute, courtesy of Cong Phuong Nguyen, sealing Vietnam’s third consecutive title in the tournament, according to antaranews.com.

Despite dominating ball possession (68%) and matching Vietnam in shots on goal (7 attempts, 2 on target), Indonesia struggled to convert opportunities into goals. 

The match saw efforts from Rahmat Arjuna, Jens Raven, Rayhan Hannan, Kakang Rudianto, and Arkhan Fikri, but all were denied by Vietnam's solid defense and goalkeeper Trung Kien Tran.

This marked Indonesia’s second straight loss to Vietnam in the ASEAN U-23 final, following their penalty shootout defeat in 2023.

Indonesia pressed relentlessly in the second half, but Vietnam held firm until the final whistle.
