Inp.polri.go.id - New York. Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono called on BRICS members to champion global financial governance reform to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“BRICS has an important role, not only through development financing, but also as a political platform to fight for a fairer global financial system,” he said, as reported by antaranews.com on Saturday (27/9/2025).

Minister Sugiono warned that time is running out to meet the 2030 Agenda, with only 15 percent of SDG targets on track while most are lagging. Developing countries face a financing gap of up to US$4 trillion.

He also urged BRICS to strengthen the Global South’s voice, reform international financial institutions, and support UN reforms under the UN80 initiative. He reiterated Indonesia’s concern over the illegal occupation of Palestine, stressing support for a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.=
