Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Reni Rahmawati, a 24-year-old Indonesian victim of a “mail-order bride” trafficking scheme in China, is scheduled to return to Indonesia on Tuesday after securing an official divorce from her Chinese husband.
The Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou coordinated her handover to Indonesian police for further processing at home.
“The Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou has taken optimal protection measures to ensure RR can be repatriated through close coordination with local authorities and relevant institutions in Indonesia,” Consul General Ben Perkasa Drajat said on Monday (17/11/2025), as cited by antaranews.com.
Reni was reported missing in September this year after her mother alerted West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, claiming she had been held against her will in China. She had traveled to Fujian in May 2025 after being offered a high-paying job but was instead forced into marriage by an agent. Her Chinese husband admitted paying 205,000 RMB to an intermediary, a sum Reni never received.
Indonesian police have detained a suspect in West Java and will use Reni’s testimony to pursue a full investigation into the trafficking network.
