Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Badminton men’s doubles pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Jonatan Christie showcased impressive performances, securing spots in the Round of 16 at the 2025 BWF Super 750 India Open in New Delhi on Wednesday (15/1/2025).
They overcame a challenging start to defeat Malaysia’s Lim Tze Jian and Wong Tien Ci in a thrilling rubber game. Despite losing the first game 19-21, Fajar/Rian bounced back with commanding victories in the next two games, 21-10 and 21-14.
Initially controlling the match, Fajar/Rian were briefly outpaced as Lim/Wong rallied to tie at 19-19 before taking the opening game. However, the Indonesians, seeded fourth, regained their momentum, dominating their opponents in the subsequent games with a faster rhythm and sharper attacks, according to antaranews.com.
Their next challenge will come from either Thailand’s Kittinupong Kedren/Dechapol Puavaranukroh or Taiwan’s Chen Zhi Ray/Lin Yu Chieh in the Round of 16.
In men’s singles, Jonatan Christie delivered a confident straight-sets victory against Taiwan’s Wang Tzu Wei, winning 21-18, 21-15. Despite a brief lapse in the first game, Jonatan quickly found his stride, dictating the pace and maintaining control throughout the match.
He will face Su Li Yang of Taiwan in his next match, aiming to continue his strong run.
With Fajar/Rian and Jonatan joining Gregoria Mariska Tunjung (women’s singles) and Dejan Ferdinansyah/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti (mixed doubles) in the Round of 16, Indonesia boasts a formidable presence in the tournament.
