Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that marrying off victims is not an adequate solution for sexual violence cases, calling for comprehensive and victim-sensitive approaches.
“Marriage doesn’t necessarily resolve the issue; it’s often forced to avoid stigma,” he said during the signing of an agreement with Aisyiyah, the female wing of the Muhammadiyah, the second largest muslim organization in Indonesia, on Wednesday (15/1/2025).
The INP, Chief Sigit said, has established the Directorate of Women and Children’s Criminal Investigation (PPA) and the Directorate of Trafficking in Persons (PPO) to combat violence against women and children.
The initiative aims to expand these units to regional police levels for broader coverage, according to antaranews.com.
Data from the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) shows women are four times more likely to be victims than men, with child victims nearly double the number of adults. Over five years, 105,475 cases have been recorded, predominantly domestic violence, molestation, and rape.
Chief Sigit also stressed involving female officers in investigations to reduce trauma for victims, adding that the INP is committed to gender equality through improved career opportunities for women
