inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, supports the Chinese energy company, Beiken Energy Group, to establish a strategic collaboration in developing a coal to chemical downstream project in Indonesia.

In a statement in Jakarta, the step is part of the Ministry of Industry's efforts to strengthen the national chemical industry supply chain by utilizing coal as a raw material for the high-value-added petrochemical industry.

"Indonesia has great potential in developing the coal to chemical industry, especially to produce derivative products such as methanol, olefins, propylene, polyolefins, BDO, and other advanced chemicals. Collaboration with Beiken Energy is expected to accelerate the downstreaming of the chemical industry, strengthen the national supply chain, and increase import substitution of chemical raw materials," said Minister Agus on Sunday (10/12/2025).

On Friday (10/10), the Minister of Industry met with Beiken in Beijing, China, to discuss strengthening collaboration.

Beiken Energy, a Beijing-based company founded in 2009, specializes in integrated engineering, oil and gas exploration and production, and the development of energy conversion technologies, including coal gasification.

This technology has the potential to support the transformation of Indonesia's coal industry from a carbonization-dominated industry to a high-value chemical industry, with derivative products such as polyolefins and BDO (1,4-Butanediol).
