inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, emphasized the importance of strengthening research and studies on Indonesian culture in Osaka, Japan, as a foundation for the development of science and international cooperation in the cultural field.

During his visit to the National Museum of Ethnology (Minpaku) in Osaka, the Minister of Culture said that Indonesia is not only a source of world cultural heritage, but also a center of knowledge that continues to contribute to the development of global cultural and humanities studies.

"Indonesia has extraordinary cultural wealth. But what is no less important is the knowledge born from that culture itself. Through research and academic cooperation, we deepen our understanding of humanity, history, and civilization," said the Minister of Culture on Sunday (10/12/2025).

The meeting at Minpaku brought together cultural academics in Japan who have long studied Indonesian culture, including the Deputy Director of Minpaku and ethnomusicologist who studies Sundanese music, Prof. Shota Fukuoka.

Then there was maritime archaeologist and curator of the Asia–Oceania exhibition Prof. Rintaro Ono; ethnologist and researcher of traditional martial arts pencak silat Dr. Hiroyuki Imamura; and researcher of Javanese dance and culture Dr. Masami Okabe.

The discussion focused on collaborative research and development of cultural studies in various fields, ranging from ethnomusicology, dance, maritime anthropology, traditional martial arts, to ethnography of the archipelago.

This meeting aims to strengthen the Indonesian–Japanese cultural research network and open opportunities for the development of interdisciplinary studies between academics of both countries.

"This research collaboration is the best way to broaden global understanding of Indonesia and make our culture a living source of knowledge," he said.
