Inp.polri.go.id - Mataram. A joint rescue team evacuated a Belgian hiker, identified as JMVA (25), after she sustained a severe ankle injury while trekking down toward Lake Segara Anak on Mount Rinjani, Saturday.
"Through a collaborative effort, the victim was moved to an emergency shelter at Sembalun Pelawangan for initial stabilizing treatment," said Budi Soesmardi, the Forest Ecosystem Controller at Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR), as cited by antaranews.com on Sunday (5/4/2026)
The evacuation involved TNGR officers, medical teams, and local porters who navigated the rugged terrain to transport the hiker to the Sembalun Community Health Center. She was subsequently referred to a hospital in Mataram for advanced medical care.
Officials highlighted that while the trails officially reopened on 1 April 2026, hikers must remain vigilant regarding physical preparedness and safety equipment to prevent accidents during the challenging descent.
