Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Ahead of the 2024 elections, the Indonesian National Police (INP) urged the public to monitor the neutrality of its members, Brigadier General Dr. Ahmad Ramadhan, the Head of Public Information Bureau at the INP Public Relations Division, said on Monday (27/11/2023).
He asserted that the INP is committed to maintaining neutrality in the 2024 elections in accordance with the law, stating that the police must remain neutral and are prohibited from engaging in practical politics.
In order to enforce this obligation, INP Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has issued a telegram to his subordinates outlining prohibitions for members of the police to declare political affiliation, participate in campaign activities, and take selfies with certain candidates using certain signs.
Spokesperson Ramadhan asserted that strict sanctions would be imposed on any police personnel found to have violated the neutrality rules, in accordance with the law and government regulations.
He urged the public to actively monitor and report any police officers who appear to be compromising their neutrality.
Reports can be made to the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), the INP Headquarters Professionalism and Security Affairs Office, the Regional Police Offices or the nearest police station.
