Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP)’s Criminal Investigation Agency arrested four suspects allegedly involved in an illegal elephant ivory trading syndicate, officials said on Monday (26/5/2025).
“They are suspected of possessing, transporting, and trading ivory, a protected wildlife part under Indonesian law,” said Brigadier General. Nunung Syaifuddin during a press conference in Jakarta, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The suspects, identified by initials IR, EF, SS, and JF, were arrested in separate locations across Jakarta and Sukabumi, West Java. Authorities seized over 300 ivory-based items, including elephant tusks and cigarette pipes sold via TikTok and Facebook.
Suspect JF, believed to be the primary supplier since 2020, sourced raw ivory from Bogor and Tangerang and sold it for up to Rp 16 million per kilogram. Suspects IR and EF marketed products live on TikTok, while suspect SS sold them internationally via Facebook.
All suspects face charges under the conservation law.
