Inp.polri.go.id - East Lombok. The Food Task Force of the Indonesian National Police (INP) continues to strengthen national food self-sufficiency efforts by expanding garlic cultivation in Sembalun District, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara .
On Sunday, Lampung Regional Police Chief Inspector General Helfi Assegaf visited the Pusuk Pujata Farmers Group in Sembalun to review crop development and support national yield expansion.
"Amid global geopolitical dynamics, food security serves as a vital foundation for national resilience. The INP Food Task Force and the Pusuk Pujata Farmers Group continue expanding cultivation areas, productivity, and crop quality so Indonesia reduces import reliance," he said on Tuesday (28/7/2026).
The initiative aligns with directives from President Prabowo Subianto establishing food self-sufficiency as a key national strategic priority. Originally initiated in 2025 across 15 hectares during Chiefl Helfi’stenure as Head of the INP Food Task Force, the program has grown significantly to cover 534 hectares by July 2026, utilizing high-yield Sangga Sembalun and Lumbu Putih varieties producing an average of 20 to 25 tons per hectare.
During the July 2026 harvest season, the task force executed a major harvest across 105 hectares. Progress has reached 76 percent (approximately 73.5 hectares), yielding 1,470 tons of garlic processed across specialized drying facilities.
