Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Seram, located near the capital of Oksibil in Papua Mountains's Bintang Mountain Regency, has a name derived from Serambakon district. It includes several villages such as Kampung, Modusit, Okatem, Parim, Seramkatop, Siminbuk, Wanbakon, Yakmor, and Yapimakot.
In Indonesian, "seram" translates to spooky or ominous, fitting the historical context of Seram in the Papua Mountains. In 2023, the region faced terror and crime from armed criminal groups (KKB), prompting residents to flee, schools to close, and buildings to suffer damage. Fortunately, in October 2023, the Damai Cartenz Task Force-2023 took down 5 KKB members responsible for these acts. Despite its eerie name, the spirit of the Indonesian National Police's (INP) female officers, known as "Srikandi" after the heroic character from Javanese shadow puppetry, remained undeterred. Earlier this week, the Srikandi officers ventured through challenging terrain, known as a KKB transit route, to reach Seram. There, they shared joy with the children of YPPK Santo Agustinus Elementary School in Yapimakot Village. Brigadier Ita Sombo Allo from the Damai Cartenz Task Force-2024, alongside First Brigadier Helma Jesika Koibur and First Brigadier Devi Eka from the Bintang Mountains Regional Police, arrived in smiles, with storybooks, and gifts in hands for the children. They engaged in singing, games, and entertainment. Their presence not only brought happiness but also strengthened the bond between the community and law enforcement. Albertus Ningdana, the Headmaster of YPPK Santo Agustinus Elementary School and a native of Serambakon District, expressed gratitude for the Srikandi officers' visit. He believes their presence helps alleviate student trauma. "With security forces in our village, we feel greatly assisted, and school activities are returning to normal," he said. Ningdana, with over 20 years in education, hoped for an end to KKB disturbances. He emphasizes the community's desire to prioritize education and empower their children to become future leaders. "We want to learn. This is our land, and we don't want any security disruptions. We want progress to ensure our children become valuable members of society," he said.
