inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. PT Jasa Marga revealed that the peak of the 2026 Eid homecoming traffic is expected to occur on March 18, and the peak of the 2026 Eid return flow is expected to occur on March 24.

"So, the peak of the homecoming traffic is on March 18 with an estimated 3.5 million vehicles on the road. But we estimate it will begin to emerge as early as Friday of this week," said Jasa Marga President Director Rivan A. Purwantono, Tuesday (3/10/2026).

Rivan says that with the long holiday on the horizon, people saw this as the perfect time to travel, but some will choose to wait in seeking a more comfortable time, both during the homecoming and return flows. 

On the other hand, Rivan stated that the peak return flow will occur on the day after Eid, as some will need to return to Jakarta, while others will arrive at the end (of the holiday).

Of the projected 3.5 million vehicles, the movement is indeed different. 28 percent will be heading to Merak, 50 percent eastward to Cipularang, and the remaining 20 percent toward Bogor.

"What needs to be anticipated is the 50 percent heading eastward. This will be further divided: 57 percent toward the Trans Java route and 42 percent toward Cipularang. And usually, the congestion at kilometer 66 is due to the higher number of vehicles, approximately 50 percent heading toward the Trans Java route," explained President Director Rivan.

For information, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the density of the Eid homecoming traffic for 1447 Hijri/2026 AD is expected to occur on March 16 and 18, based on simulation results of projected public movement during that period.

The Minister explained that the government has proposed a work from anywhere (WFA) policy to help reduce the congestion, and this policy has received presidential approval.
