Inp.polri.go.id - Timika. Joint Indonesian Military (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (INP) officers carried out a bladed-weapon sweep and dismantled makeshift tents at the site of an ongoing communal conflict in Kwamki Narama District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, on Monday (5/1/2026).
“We conducted searches for sharp weapons and continue to push both groups toward reconciliation,” Mimika Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Billyandha Hildiario Budiman said, as cited by antaranews.com
The operation was launched to prevent further violence following clashes between two community groups that have killed more than 10 people since October 2025. Officers targeted temporary gathering points used by the rival groups and increased patrols to deter retaliation.
Around 400 joint personnel have been deployed to secure the area, while police coordinate with the local government to facilitate peace talks. Authorities warned that any provocateurs obstructing reconciliation efforts would face legal action.
Police urged residents to remain calm as security forces maintain control to stop the conflict from spreading to other parts of Timika.
