inp.polri.go.id - The Indonesian Economic Chamber of Commerce (KADIN) in Taiwan admits that there is no need to evacuate Indonesian citizens (WNI) following China's Dongfeng missile to the Taiwan Strait, Thursday (4/8).
KADIN is Indonesia's representative office in Taiwan because Jakarta does not have diplomatic relations with Taipei due to Indonesia-China relations which uphold the One China policy.
"Basically, KADIN already has a measurable evacuation scheme for repatriation of Indonesian citizens in Taiwan in the event of an emergency, according to the priority level for both air and sea route schemes," said Head of Tourism and Transportation of KADIN Taiwan, Ichwan Joesoef, to CNNIndonesia.com, Thursday. (4/8).
Ichwan then said, "However, from our observation, the situation in Taiwan is still normal in all sectors and there is no indication of significant friction to take preventive action."
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had prepared anticipatory steps for Indonesian citizens in Taiwan and they hope the China-Taiwan conflict does not escalate. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that currently there are around 300 thousand Indonesian citizens living and working in Taiwan.
"Hopefully there will be no escalation and even armed conflict. However, KADIN Taiwan already has a SOP for contingency measures," said the spokesman for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah.
Similarly, the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, said that KADIN has a contingency plan to anticipate emergency situations.
