Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Papua Regional Police recorded 94 deaths linked to violent attacks by armed criminal groups (KKB) throughout 2025, based on 104 cases across 21 district police units in Papua, Papua Mountains, and neighboring provinces, Papua Police Chief Inspector General Patrige Renwarin said on Wednesday (31/12/2025).
“KKB remains a serious security threat in Papua and continues to create fear among civilians,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Chief Patrige explained that the fatalities included nine Indonesian military personnel, six police officers, 64 civilians, and 15 KKB members, while 120 others were injured, including security forces and civilians. The violence occurred throughout the year, prompting intensified security operations alongside community-based approaches.
To address the situation, police are prioritizing a human-centered strategy by involving local governments, regional legislatures, community leaders, and religious figures to help reduce tensions and prevent further violence.
Chief Patrige said the approach combines law enforcement with dialogue to restore public safety and create a more stable environment across affected regions.
