Speaking in Jakarta on Thursday (30/11/2023), Rear Admiral TNI Adin Nurawaluddin, Director General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Supervision at the Ministry, highlighted the main maritime areas affected were North Natuna Sea bordering Vietnam, Malacca Strait bordering Malaysia and Sulawesi Sea bordering the Philippines.
He said that the confiscated vessels went through legal procedures and confiscated by the state saying that that some of the vessels will be reused to support local fishing communities.
Despite the interception of a dozen vessels, Admiral Adin noted that the current use of confiscated vessels for local fishing communities is around 10 per cent.
According to the data, the Directorate General has inspected a total of 26 foreign fishing vessels up to the third quarter. At the same time, Indonesian fishing vessels were inspected, totalling 3,845 units, with 141 units facing detention.
