We have coordinated with the Director of Crime Investigation Unit of Lampung Regional Police to collect the existing evidence. So, it is currently under investigation, said Head of Public Relations of the Lampung Regional Police, Pol. Grand Commissioner Zahwani Pandra Arsyad in a press statement received on Tuesday (07/20).
The Head of Public Relations of the Lampung Police said that the ranks of the regional police had coordinated with the Director of Special Criminal Investigation (Direskrimsus) of the Lampung Regional Police, Pol. Grand Commissioner Ali Rahman, in collaboration with the South Lampung Police. and the local Covid-19 Handling Task Force.
Previously, in mid-February 2021, a video circulated about the indiscriminate disposal of medical waste at the Bakung Village Final Disposal Site (TPA), South Telubetung, Bandar Lampung City. The medical waste in the plastic bag is labeled as one of the private hospitals in Bandar Lampung City.
The medical waste that is disposed of carelessly includes syringes, infusion bottles and hoses, liquid medicine bottles, medical personal protective equipment, gloves, masks, and other medical equipment. The medical waste is piled up in plastic mixed with household and industrial waste at the Bakung TPA.
The Lampung Police, who has investigated the case, stated that the disposal of medical waste was suspected to have been going on for a long time. This is after an investigation and examination of several witnesses, including Bakung landfill scavengers, collectors, and also the hospital. This includes officers from the Bandar Lampung Environmental Service, UPT TPA Bakung.
Kombes Pol Zahwani Pandra Arsyad said, if it is indicated that there is a criminal act in the disposal of arbitrary medical waste, the perpetrator or party responsible will be charged with Article 104 of Law Number 32 of 2009 concerning the Environment and Article 40 of Law Number 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management.
