Inp.polri.go.id - Pamekasan. The Pamekasan Health Office confirmed on Monday (22/9/2025) that seven children have died from measles, while the number of suspected cases has risen sharply to 734, up from 520 last week.
The fatalities are spread across five sub districts in the East Java city, namely Proppo (2), Pademawu (1), Tlanakan (1), Batumarmar (1), and Pasean (2).
“Out of the 734 suspected cases, 178 have tested positive, 672 have recovered, and 55 are still receiving treatment,” said Avira Sulistyowati, the Acting Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division., as quoted by antaranews.com
She urged residents to maintain healthy lifestyles and ensure children receive measles immunization, while health authorities continue monitoring and running mass vaccination campaigns across all subdistricts.
Measles is highly contagious, capable of spreading from one individual to 12–18 people via droplets from coughs or sneezes. Large gatherings are considered a major factor in transmission.
