Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia announced on Friday (17/4/2026) that deliberations regarding price hike for non-subsidized fuels, such as the Pertamax Series, are nearing completion following intense coordination with state-owned Pertamina and private distributors.

"According to the 2022 Ministerial Regulation, the pricing of non-subsidized fuel is strictly based on prevailing market rates rather than government subsidies,"he said at his office in Jakarta, as reported by antaranews.com

The upcoming adjustment aligns with a 2022 ministerial decree governing retail fuel formulas. Since early April 2026, state energy company PT Pertamina and private operators like Shell and BP have held prices steady despite global Brent crude surging to nearly 100 dollars per barrel. This temporary freeze followed a government directive to prevent public panic amidst escalating Middle Eastern conflicts.

As global oil prices remain significantly higher than January averages, officials noted that Pertamina currently bears the price gap. The government expects to finalize and implement the new market-based rates soon to ensure fiscal balance while maintaining national fuel stocks and distribution stability across all public refueling stations.
