Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar, rejected a proposed policy by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi that would require men to undergo vasectomy to qualify for government aid.

“There is no such rule. Regional administrations cannot make up their own requirements,” he said on Saturday (3/5/2025), firmly dismissing the proposal as reported by antaranews.com.

Governor Dedi previously suggested integrating family planning data, particularly male participation through vasectomy, into social aid eligibility criteria such as scholarships and non-cash assistance.

Under his proposal, recipients must be registered in male contraceptive programs to access assistance—raising ethical and legal concerns about consent and state overreach. He argued the measure would ensure fairer aid distribution across households.

Critics, including Indonesia’s Human Rights Commission, warned the policy could violate individual rights. The Ministry of Social Affairs is reviewing the idea.
