Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi reminded that the UN Security Council is tasked with preserving international peace and security, rejecting wars and genocides, notably in Palestine. This statement was made during an open debate at the UN Security Council Headquarters in New York on Wednesday (24/1/2024).
"My question to the UN Security Council is how many resolutions regarding Palestine have been adopted? And how many have been implemented?" she asked.
Minister Retno further questioned where Palestine should seek recourse if the UN Security Council has failed for decades to enforce its resolutions.
She insisted on holding Israel accountable for its actions, particularly the atrocities in Gaza, emphasizing that no country is immune to the law.
"I stress that all of us bear the responsibility to adhere to International Humanitarian Law without exception, especially in responding to the situation in Gaza," reiterated Minister Retno.
The Indonesian government declared Minister Retno's participation in the meeting as a commitment to continue supporting the Palestinian people's struggle.
Since the cross-border attack by the Palestinian Hamas militant group, Israel has launched relentless air and ground assaults on the Gaza Strip, resulting in Israeli authorities claiming 1,200 casualties. According to Palestinian health authorities, at least 25,295 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have been killed, and another 63,000 people are injured due to Israeli attacks.
