Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs issued a second official summons to tech giants Meta and Google on Thursday (2/4/2026) after both failed to attend initial hearings regarding child protection regulations.
"We have issued the second summons today, as regulations allow for a maximum of three warnings before formal sanctions are imposed," said Alexander Sabar, the Director General of Digital Space Supervision, as reported by antaranews.com
The summons targets Meta, which is the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, and Google, which owns YouTube, for alleged non-compliance with Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 (PP Tunas). While both companies requested delays for internal coordination, the Ministry said that administrative stalling extends the risks faced by minors online. Under Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026, continued defiance could lead to severe administrative penalties, including temporary suspension or a total block of access within Indonesia.
The Ministry remains firm that global platforms must demonstrate concrete accountability rather than administrative delays. Officials clarified that ensuring a safe digital environment is a mandatory legal responsibility, and the enforcement mechanism will proceed strictly according to prevailing laws if the tech giants fail to meet the upcoming hearing.
