Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Forestry has prepared a strategic mitigation plan to address escalating forest and land fires, prioritizing Weather Modification Operations (OMC) and enhanced surveillance.
Addressing the 58.7 hectares currently burning in West Aceh, officials confirmed on Wednesday (4/2/2026) that the government is deploying integrated patrols across fire-prone villages.
The strategy utilizes the Sipongi Plus early detection system to monitor hotspots and coordinate land and air suppression efforts before the dry season peaks.
"We are strengthening integrated and independent patrols in fire-prone villages, optimizing early detection through Sipongi Plus, and preparing timely weather modification operations before the peak of the dry season," said Thomas Nifinluri, the Director of Forest Fire Control, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The ministry reported that 225 operations managed to control 600 hectares of fire in January alone. Beyond emergency response, the government is promoting permanent solutions through peatland landscape management and "No-Burn" land clearing incentives, aiming to continue the downward trend in annual burned areas recorded since 2023.
