Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto announced plans to develop a modern super-maximum-security prison on a remote island, as part of President Prabowo Subianto’s directive.
“President wants a state-of-the-art supermax correctional facility located on an isolated island — preparations are now underway,” he said during a visit to Medan Prison, North Sumatra, on Wednesday (25/6/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Minister Agus warned inmates to maintain good behavior or risk being transferred to Nusakambangan Island, Indonesia’s existing high-security prison.
“Behave yourselves — anyone causing trouble will be sent to Nusakambangan Island,” he told inmates.
The minister joined prisoners for lunch, saying his presence reflects government concern for inmate rehabilitation. He emphasized equality, saying inmates are “honorable in the eyes of God” and are on a journey of self-improvement.
Minister Agus also inspected vocational training programs at the facility. Since taking office, his ministry has relocated nearly 1,000 high-risk inmates from across the country to Nusakambangan Island to ensure better security.
