Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. North Sumatra Regional Police incinerated 201.68 kilograms of methamphetamine, 272.23 kilograms of marijuana, and 40,118 ecstasy pills on Wednesday (20/11/2024).
The drugs, confiscated between 9 September and 11 November 2024, were destroyed as part of ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking.
“These operations underline our commitment to eradicating drug abuse,” said North Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Whisnu Hermawan Februanto, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The operations resulted in 51 arrests across 32 cases involving domestic and international networks. Routes uncovered included Rokan Hilir to Medan, Aceh to Makassar, and international smuggling from Malaysia via Bagan Asahan. Traffickers used various methods, such as hiding drugs in vehicles, suitcases, and small boats.
“The President’s instructions are clear—narcotics must be eliminated in Indonesia. We are executing this directive firmly,” Chief Whisnu stated.
Suspects face charges under the Narcotics Law, which carries penalties ranging from four years in prison to life imprisonment or death. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant against drug-related activities.
