Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Karyoto, has urged the public to use idle land and home gardens to grow food crops.
Speaking at the launch of the "the Indonesian National Police Task Force Supporting Food Security" in Cigombong, Bogor, on Wednesday (20/11/2024), he emphasized the importance of optimizing available resources.
Chief Karyoto explained that unused land, including residential yards, could be transformed into productive spaces for growing vegetables like chili, tomatoes, eggplant, and spinach. He also encouraged the use of recycled materials, such as plastic bottles or simple pots, to create small home gardens.
Chief Karyoto suggested that small-scale egg farming could help families reduce reliance on the market, fostering economic independence.
"By growing their own vegetables and raising chickens for eggs, families can cut daily expenses and boost food security," he said, as reported by antaranews.com.
Metro Jaya Police has partnered with the Jakarta Agriculture Agency to promote this initiative, which includes a pilot project covering 15 hectares of land in Cigombong, creating jobs and food for local residents..
