Inp.polri.go.id – Kupang. The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police reminds the community to always filter every information from the internet. The NTT Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Grand Commissioner Ariasandy, states this measure is to tackle disinformation and hoax.
“On this year, since January, the cyber team of NTT Police have listed hoaxes information through social media,” said Ariasandy on Tuesday (9/19/2023).
This was conveyed by Ariasandy during his speech on Prevention of Gratification and Extortion, and Public Relations Strategy on Preventing the Dangers of Hoax “Si Yahox” Seminar, held by NTT Ministry of Law and Human Rights office.
The former South Central Timor Police Chief states that filtering information is crucial, particularly during this political year to prevent any conflicts or tensions in the community.
“Therefore, if you found any disinformation or suspicious information with the intention to provoke the community, you should immediately report it to the authorities so we could handle it,” implore Ariasandy.
In preventing hoaxes and disinformation, Ariasandy has also conveyed several steps in tackling those issues. Those steps include releasing the news in accordance to the fact, social media dissemination on the dangers of disinformation, taking down hoax news, build strong cooperation with media, and check and recheck all information received.
He then adds to disperse any conflict potentials, he suggests to instead amplified and help making a positive content go viral.
Ariasandy then stressed that the importance of public relations is to build a strong relationship between institutions and the public, while maintaining and improving public trust.
