Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Nyoman Nuarta, the designer of the Garuda Palace in the new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), has emphasized on Saturday (10/8/2024) that the palace’s design aims to convey dignity rather than mystical qualities.
"If some see it as mystical, that's up to them. Our goal is to ensure the palace exudes authority," he said as reported by antaranews.com.
Nuarta stressed that the palace should not resemble ordinary houses or buildings. It must reflect the unique character of the nation, not be influenced by colonial architectural styles.
The design features a front facade of brass that will gradually change color to green due to natural oxidation, eventually developing a turquoise hue.
"This change will occur slowly, reflecting the climate," Nuarta explained.
The palace’s perforated steel frame, which will age to a reddish-brown color, is designed to last for hundreds of years.
"Similar to old bridges in New York, this color change is expected and proven over time," Nuarta said, adding that he wanted the palace to avoid flashy gold tones.
