Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Chief of Papua Regional Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob, Senior Superintendent, John H. S. Sitanggang, is leading an investigation in Puncak Jaya following recent unrest in the area. 

The investigation, which began on Saturday, aims to identify the causes of the disturbances and report findings to the Papua Police Chief.

"My team and I, including the Papua Police General Crime Investigation Director and the Damai Cartenz Operation Chief, have been ordered by the Papua Police Chief to investigate the situation in Puncak Jaya after the riots on 16 July 2024," Chief John said on Sunday (28/7/2024) 

The unrest was triggered by a shooting, which resulted in the death of three civilians. The victims' families responded with vandalism and arson. 

Following these incidents, Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri instructed the investigation of the incident.
