Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Police Mathius D. Fakhiri has expressed his deepest condolences on the death of suspended Papua Governor Lukas Enembe and promised that the police will secure the arrival of his remains.
"On behalf of the entire Papua Police family, I express our deepest condolences on the passing of our beloved brother. Lukas Enembe, at around 10:30 this morning. May the Almighty be with him," Inspector General of Police Mathius D. Fakhiri said on Tuesday (26/12/2023).
Enembe, who also served as chairman of the regional executive board of the Democratic Party of Indonesia, died at the Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital in Jakarta at the age of 56.
Chief Fakhiri urged the public to maintain the Christmas atmosphere and accept the late Enembe's departure with sincerity. In his speech, he asserted the importance of maintaining calm and not being provoked by information that may not be accurate.
At this time of mourning, Chief Fakhiri emphasised that the Papua Police would continue to maintain peace and order in Papua and ensure that the funeral process would be solemn and smooth.
"His family will decide where to bury him. This is in line with our internal culture in Papua, so there is no presumption as some people might think," he explained.
