Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Papua Regional Police have taken firm measures in response to the attack on traditional gold miners allegedly done by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), the Chief of Papua Regional Police Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri confirmed.
This incident unfolded in Samboga District, Yahukimo Regency on Monday (16/10/23) at approximately 2.30 pm, resulting in the loss of five mine workers.
The police has seek supports from local community leaders and stakeholders to make resolute decisions.
"We are currently engaged in an investigative process, collaborating with community leaders to assess the condition of the victims. Presently, we have refrained from dispatching security personnel to the scene due to the exceedingly high risk involved," he stated in a written statement issued on Tuesday (17/10/23).
Chief Mathius emphasized that the police will not tolerate armed actions transpiring in the land of Papua. However, in taking decisive action, the police has to be careful and meticulous to minimize further loss of life.
