Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP)’s Traffic Corps clarified that the physical Vehicle Ownership Book, better known locally as BPKB, remains legally valid, even as the government introduces the digital BPKB or e-BPKB system following public concerns that the traditional booklet is no longer recognized.
“Physical BPKB owned by the public remains valid and lawful. We are not eliminating the physical version, only improving service quality by implementing an electronic system through e-BPKB,” said Senior Superintendent Sumardji, the Head of BPKB Sub-Directorate at the Traffic Corps, on Friday (21/11/2025), as cited by antaranews.com.
He explained that the e-BPKB is not a full replacement but a service enhancement offering better security, integrated storage, and easier data validation through digital devices. Chief Sumardji said that electronic documents carry the same legal force but provide higher protection against forgery and faster verification.
The Traffic Corps acknowledged uneven digital literacy as a barrier, prompting expanded education through BPKB units, the One-stop Administration Services Office.(Samsat) offices, dealers, leasing firms, automotive communities, and social media to ensure both formats remain understood and accepted.
