Inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stressed that police forces must build stronger cooperation with local communities to maintain public order, during the Srawung Agung Jaga Warga Assembly in Yogyakarta on Friday (21/11/2025).
The community-based security initiative is part of a local cultural tradition aimed at solving disputes peacefully and supporting social harmony, according to antaranews.com.
“The police cannot work alone. We must collaborate and synergize with the Jaga Warga groups as a shared force to maintain public order in Yogyakarta,” Chef Sigit said, emphasizing that the program symbolizes public participation in preserving social structures rooted in local wisdom.
Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X welcomed the handover of 10,000 “Jaga Warga” vests by the INP Chief, calling them a symbol of protective presence.
“These vests represent security that is protecting, not intimidating,” the Sultan said, urging them to act as cultural guardians ahead of Christmas and New Year holiday security operations.
The ceremony gathered 3,500 participants across police districts.
