inp.polri.go.id - The South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) uncovered the practice of industrial houses of adulterated liquor (alcohol) in Palembang City, which has an inter-provincial distribution area. Director of the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of Polda Sumsel, Commissioner M Barly Ramadhani in Palembang, Friday (27/5/2022), said the industrial house for making adulterated liquor is located on Perjuangan Street, Blok Q number 208, Karya Baru Village, Alang-alang Lebar District, Palembang City. "This industrial house has been under surveillance by our officers since last few weeks, starting with the reports of local residents who were worried about the flourishing of alcoholism," said Barly Ramadhani. The practice of making adulterated liquor in an industrial house was uncovered after personnel from Unit IV Sub-Directorate I of Tipid Indagsi managed to arrest the suspect, AM. "This suspect is suspected to be the producer/maker of the mixed alcoholic beverage, he was caught red-handed in an ambush operation while producing liquor in the house, on Thursday (19/5) afternoon," he said. According to Barly, the police confiscated evidence of 479 bottles of mansion house vodka brand liquor, 236 bottles of mansion house whiskey brand, four packages of mansion house whiskey and vodka brand labels, one drink bottle press, 100 bottles, and one barcode stamping device. AM admitted that he had only operated for a couple of weeks and that he was doing it alone, taught by a friend in Jakarta. In a day the suspect was able to produce more than 700 bottles of adulterated liquor which were then sold to stalls in Palembang City, Lubuk Linggau, and even to Jambi Province. The police have arrested the perpetrator and detained him at the South Sumatra Police Headquarters for further investigation. For his actions, the suspect is suspected of violating Article 8 paragraph (1) letters E and F of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, with maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of Rp2 billion.
