Inp.polri.go.id - Padang Panjang. At least five police and military personnel were confirmed dead after a flash flood swept through the Padang Panjang–Tanah Datar border in West Sumatra on Thursday, while rescue teams continue searching for one missing military soldier.
The victims were on duty supporting traffic control and evacuation efforts when sudden debris flow hit the Jembatan Kembar area.
“We extend our deepest condolences for the soldiers who fell while serving the community,” said Lieutenant Colonel Taufiq, the spokesperson of theTuanku Imam Bonjo military command, on Sunday (30/11/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Three military soldiers were initially reported missing; two bodies were recovered, while one remains unaccounted for.
Two police officers from Riau were also found dead along the Batang Anai River, up to 30 km from the disaster site. Their vehicle was discovered earlier after landslides blocked access.
Local authorities said one soldier warned residents moments before a loud rumble triggered the deadly flood.
