inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP)'s Cyber Crime Directorate has successfully uncovered a case of alleged manipulation through Business Email Compromise (BEC), involving a company in the United States (US).

Head of Sub-Directorate I of the INP's Cyber Crime Directorate, Senior Superintendent Deddy Supriadi, stated in a press conference that the case was uncovered through collaboration between the INP, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).

"An American citizen who owns a company called IQ Power Tools, based in the US, had his data manipulated, based on reports from the FBI and PPATK," he said on Wednesday (8/19/2026).

Deddy explained that the perpetrator's modus operandi in this case was to create emails that resembled official emails for a purchase and sale between two companies: Duro Machinery, the seller based in China, and IQ Power Tools, the buyer based in the US.

Initially, the perpetrator hacked the buyer's email and learned that a computer hardware payment transaction had occurred between the two companies.

The perpetrator then pretended to be the seller by sending an email that looked like an official one. He then manipulated the victim into making the payment to an Indonesian bank account that had been set up to hold the proceeds of the crime.

As a result of this incident, the victim suffered a loss of US$350,325.

"We know from the facts that the BCA account in question was numbered 5345187445 and was in the name of PT Aksesoris Andalan Bersama," said Deddy.

At the time of the blocking process, the account was found to still have a balance of US$285,859, or the equivalent of IDR 5 billion.

Investigators have named two suspects in this case: LPK (56), an Indonesian citizen, and LJ (46), a Chinese citizen.

Deddy stated that suspect LPK acted as the person who legalized the PT Aksesoris Andalan Bersama company by using the identity of his own biological child and a fictitious address.

LPK admitted to being instructed to commit this crime by a Chinese citizen with the initials CW, who is currently on the wanted list.

Meanwhile, suspect LJ was responsible for communicating with suspect CW.

"The suspect with the initials LJ is known to have lived in Indonesia since 2005," he said.

Both suspects are suspected of violating multiple articles related to the crimes of electronic document manipulation, fund transfers, fraud, and money laundering.
