inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police, along with the Directorate General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance, have dismantled a multi-provincial syndicate producing and distributing counterfeit stamps, with potential state losses reaching IDR 1.03 trillion.

Vice Chief of the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police, Brigadier General Dekananto Eko Purwono, stated that this action demonstrates the police's and the Directorate General of Taxes' firm commitment to protecting state revenues and breaking the chain of counterfeiting crimes from upstream to downstream.

"The operation was carried out simultaneously from June 24 to July 2, 2026, in five jurisdictions: Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and North Sumatra," Dekananto said in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/19/2026).

He explained that investigators successfully apprehended 16 suspects who had a structured division of roles. These roles include producers (B), distributors (RC), couriers (M), recyclers (TA and RTP), and up to 11 other suspects acting as sellers (IA, F, H, RH, MIF, SNM, U, FF, NSA, P, and MO).

This syndicate operates using two main methods: producing new counterfeit stamps and reconditioning used stamps by removing signatures, stamps, or dates of use to make them appear new. The products are then widely marketed through digital marketplace platforms.

"The confiscated evidence includes 3,438,541 counterfeit IDR 10,000 stamps ready for distribution, three rolls of raw paper capable of printing up to 33.3 million stamps, a set of printing machines, and several marketplace accounts," said Dekananto.

In the past year, this syndicate has sold at least 4,007,334 counterfeit stamps, with a turnover of IDR 40.07 billion.

For their actions, the suspects were charged under Articles 24, 25, and 26 of Law Number 10 of 2020 concerning Stamp Duty, as well as Articles 382 and 383 of the Criminal Code, which carry a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment. Investigators are also investigating the alleged Money Laundering (TPPU).

The Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police urges the public to only purchase stamps through authorized outlets such as post offices and to be wary of offers of stamps at low prices on online platforms.
