Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Banda Aceh Sub-regional Police has named two more suspects believed to be involved in the smuggling of Rohingya refugees to the coast of Aceh Besar. "The investigators have identified two additional suspects with the initials MAH (22) and HB (53)," said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Banda Aceh Regional Police, Assistant Superintendent Fadillah Aditya Pratama on Wednesday (27/12/2023). Suspect MAH is a citizen of Bangladesh, and suspect HB is a Myanmar-born Rohingya refuge from a shelterp in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, antaranews.com reported. MAH being a boat driver, alternating with the first suspect MA, and ensuring the boat arrives in Indonesia with the help of a compass. "Meanwhile, the suspect HB serves as the ship's engine technician, and for his work, he receives a salary of 70,000 Taka," he said, referring to the Bangladeshi currency. In this case, Fadillah continued, investigators have examined 12 refugee witnesses. Thus, it can be concluded that the suspects MAH and HB are strongly suspected of collaborating to assist MA in the crime of smuggling Rohingya from Bangladesh to Indonesia. MAH is suspected as the driver of  the boat while HB the engine technician of the boat carrying the Rohingya refugees toAceh.  They were paid from someone in Bangladesh for their roles, Chief Fadilah said. Fadillah said that the police have confiscated several pieces of evidence, including a fishing boat labeled NAZMA, mobile phones owned by MA and MAH, 14 wrenches, one English key, and a screwdriver owned by HB. Previously, Banda Aceh Regional Police had named a Rohingya refugee as a suspect in the alleged crime of smuggling 137 people to Indonesia.  The man also holds the status of a refugee from a shelter in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.
