Inp.polri.go.id - Batu. East Java Regional Police revealed that the tourist bus involved in a fatal accident in Batu City in East Java on Wednesday night had an expired roadworthiness test, locally known as KIR, and transportation permit.

"The KIR expired on 15 December 2023, and the transport permit has been invalid since 26 April 2020," said Senior Superintendent Komarudin, the East Java Police Director of Traffic,  in a press conference on Thursday (9/1/2025).

The accident, which involved the bus carryingSMK  Bali Global Vocational School students, left four people dead and ten others injured. Preliminary investigations suggest brake failure as the cause.

A Traffic Accident Analysis (TAA) is ongoing to determine whether human error or mechanical issues triggered the crash.

"The technology will reveal details like the bus's speed from the start to the collision," Chief Komarudin explained.

The accident occurred along a 2.3 km stretch, with seven collision points from Jalan Imam Bonjol to Jalan Patimura. Authorities are also interrogating the bus driver to ascertain his awareness of the vehicle's condition.
