inp.polri.go.id – The National Police (Polri) will hold the Ketupat Operation to anticipate traffic jams and provide security during the 2022 Eid homecoming season. Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Wakapolri), Commissioner General Gatot Eddy Pramono said the Ketupat Operation would be supported by related ministries/agencies.
This year is the first time the government has allowed the eid homecoming after the last two years it was banned due to the coronavirus pandemic. "Polri will conduct the Ketupat Operation in 2022," he said at the National Police Headquarters, Jakarta, Thursday (14/4/22).
Commissioner Gatot Eddy Pramono also said that the Ketupat operation would involve at least 144,392 personnel. Polri will also prepare security posts and integrated services, which include Covid-19 vaccination booths. According to him, security posts will be placed in crowded places, such as tourist attractions, places of worship, rest areas, and other potentially crowded places.
According to Wakapolri, there was a potential for traffic jams during this year's homecoming. "There are many potential disturbances that could arise in this year’s homecoming, including traffic jams and accidents on the road," he explained.
The Three-Star General also said that his party had prepared strategies to anticipate traffic jams during the Eid homecoming. The strategies include the one-way system, contraflow, odd-even, open-close system, as well as preparing alternative routes on the main road.
Wakapolri emphasized that the prepared strategy would be applied according to his discretion by adjusting to conditions on the ground.
"Well, if for example, that contraflow can't handle the situation on the field, then we will do the one-way strategy. Then if still doesn’t work, we'll implement odd-even policies, and so on. However, all this decision is based on our discretion, from our review on the field," he explained.
