inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has asked his staff to investigate the land burning cases that cause wildfire, which is suspected to be carried out by individuals with links to certain corporations.

In a coordination meeting in Pekanbaru, Riau, President Prabowo Subianto listened to a report from Riau Police Chief, Inspector General Herry Heryawan, regarding the installation of warning signs prohibiting planting on burned land as a precaution against corporations using farmers or communities to set fires to clear land.

"Is there any evidence or indications that a corporation is ordering this?" the President asked the Police Chief.

Chief Herry then explained that to date, they have no clear evidence linking the corporation to the scheme.

However, Herry stated that three suspects arrested in 2025 were known not to have plantations in the area where the forest and land fires occurred but were there for fishing, even though there are no fishing spots in the area.

"Please bring them to Jakarta, please send them to Jakarta. We'll investigate them further. I'll also ask the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) to participate in the investigation," the President said in response.

On that occasion, Prabowo also learned that five palm oil companies in Riau had received sanctions from the Ministry of Environment for fires in their areas.

In response, the President then requested the names of the companies to ensure they had made improvements.

"Basically, any company that refuses to participate in safeguarding, we will revoke its membership," the President said.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Riau this morning to inspect the handling of forest and land fires in Sumatra, specifically in the regions of Riau, Jambi, and South Sumatra.
