Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono revealed that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed his ministry to ensure the continuation of the high-speed rail project from Jakarta to Surabaya. 

The line currently operates only between Jakarta and Bandung.

“There is a special task from the President to us at the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure, not only Jakarta–Bandung, but to extend it all the way to Surabaya,” he told reporters on Wednesday (13/8/2025)< as reported by antaranews.com.

The project is expected to revolutionize mobility for people, goods, and services across Java, cutting travel times and boosting regional connectivity. The government also plans to develop transit-oriented hubs around stations to spur new residential and economic zones beyond Greater Jakarta.

The plan remains in the feasibility study stage, with the government aiming to refine technical, financing, and land acquisition strategies by learning from the Jakarta–Bandung project.
