inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Manpower considers decent and affordable housing located close to the workplace crucial for reducing workers' expenses while improving their welfare and quality of life.
"Housing is not just a place to live, but an integral part of the well-being of workers and their families. Homeownership is a major aspiration for workers, in addition to earning a decent wage," said Indra, Special Staff to the Minister of Manpower, on Wednesday (January 28, 2026).
Indra stated that many workers still face limited access to housing that meets their financial needs, especially those located near industrial areas.
"Many workers currently have to allocate up to 20 percent of their wages solely for rent or rental costs. This situation presents a real challenge that needs to be addressed through targeted policies," explained Indra.
One of the main issues frequently raised by workers is the distance of housing from the workplace, which results in high transportation costs and daily travel time.
Therefore, one of the government's efforts is to implement a down-to-earth policy through the 3 Million Houses Program, including the provision of subsidized housing for low-income communities, such as workers and laborers.
"The government wants to ensure workers have access to affordable housing close to their workplaces. Today's dialogue is part of a joint effort to achieve this, including through the provision of subsidized apartments in industrial areas," explained Special Staff Indra.
Furthermore, the government has also prepared a Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP) scheme with low interest rates and affordable installments, making it more affordable for workers and laborers.
